PRESS RELEASE

PRESS RELEASE: Paintings of New York City [New York, NY], Apr 8 - May 31, 2019

Cavalier Gallery is proud to announce the group exhibition Paintings of New York City, showing at our New York gallery, 3 West 57th Street, from April 8th to April 30th.*

This exhibition ties together works spanning over a century, showing the growth of New York from a major city into the world capital it is today, with a special emphasis placed on the crucial period immediately before the First World War. The works illustrate day-to-day slices of life from every aspect of New York which highlight the contrasts and paradoxes of New York City life. From scenes of industry and commerce to leisure and relaxation; from towering skyscrapers to humble parks; and from the chaotic hustle and bustle of traffic to peaceful, quiet scenes of calm.

In the telling of this story, a broad collection of styles are presented from the schools of Realism, Impressionism, Ashcan, the Eight, and Figurative Expressionism as presented by 16 artists. This collection pulls together the talents of Modern and Contemporary artists such as Nicholas Berger, Oscar Bluemner, Walter Brightwell, Blendon Reed Campbell, Dines Carlsen, Howard Cook, Colin Campbell Cooper, Paul Cornoyer, William Gropper, Wolf Kahn, Marla Korr, Herman Maril, Nina Maguire, Reginald Marsh, Harry W Newman, Theodore Robinson, Rudolph Ruzicka, Everett Shinn, John Terelak, Everett Warner, and Guy Carleton Wiggins.

*Due to the popularity of this exhibition, we have extended the show through May 31st in our 4th floor gallery.
